La Celeste Soccer

Practices Start Tues. March 3rd

PRACTICE SCHEDULE

Practice is every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00-6:00 pm at Foerster Park, field 6C.

The league has provided us balls but feel free to bring your own – they are easy to lose, so heads up there!

Other than that, they’ll need a water bottle, some cleats (no ‘toe cleat’), and shin guards.

We’ll switch to just a Thursday practice once games start. It would be great if everyone can try to make both practices each week till games start.

Once games start, Coach Dan and I will be out there on Thursdays for practice if anyone wants to come out, but no big deal if y’all want to skip any/all of those!

When practice or a game is rained out, y’all can meet me and Davis at the trampoline park for ‘team building’ exercises (DODGEBALL!!).

GAME SCHEDULE

Games start Saturday April 4th, and all games for the entire league will be at Mt Hebron Park (for that day). They are making this first game day a big event with food trucks and fun stuff for kids!

Going forward, games will be at either Mt Hebron Park or Veterans Park. We’ll find out details in a week or two when we get the game schedule.

Games will be on Saturdays and Tuesdays this year.

I believe we have 8 games, and then a single elimination tournament at the end of the season.

WORLD CUP THEME

The league is doing a World Cup theme this year. We drew teams at the coach’s meeting and we got Uruguay, so we’ll get jerseys based on their team.

All I know about Uruguay soccer is they were the 3rd best team in Sega Genesis’s World Championship Soccer, but I just googled them and found out they’re nickname is La Celeste (The Sky Blue), and they have a saying:

“El que quiere Celeste que le cueste"

Which translates to: “Those who want the Sky Blue must pay the price!”

It derives from the team’s resilience and gritty playing style, which is perfect because “increasing resiliency” is definitely one of my top priorities for the season!

We’ll also be using the same game ball as the one in the world cup (but size 4), thought that was pretty cool!

And each field is going to be named after a world cup host city and they are going to paint the names on the fields – also sounds kinda cool! (And should make it easier to find the right playing field 😂)

“Enthusiasm is everything.”
