• Step-overs 1-v-1

When you do the step-over, really try to convince them you’re going in that direction and then quickly flick the ball with your other foot in the other direction.

  • #1 Thing About Defending: DELAY!

The primary objective is to immediately limit the attacker's time and space, forcing them to slow down, make mistakes, or turn the ball over.

  • 1v1 Defense Basics

    • Hips are sideways to attacker, not straight on.

    • Quick feet, small steps.

    • Poke but don’t stab!

  • How to Get the Ball in the Air

Put your ‘plant’ foot about 6 inches away from the ball. Strike the ball like your foot is a golf club: try to get ‘under’ the ball. Lean back as you kick it to get it in the air. Then ‘follow through’ with your kicking leg.

  • Dribbling Past A Defender

Try to keep the ball on the foot that is AWAY from the defender. Use your arm closest to the defender like a shield – keep it up, level with their chest.
